Bagan , the royal town of the 11th – 13th centuries and the former centre of Buddhist Myanmar, lies on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) and counts as one of the greatest and most impressive sights in Myanmar, if not Southeast Asia. Looking into the distance, you will immediately see numerous grand temples and pagodas. In the 13th century, 4400 pagodas were counted, of which you can still admire more than 2000. The biggest ten pagodas are worth a lengthy visit, while many of the others are ideal for viewing the architecture, the diverse styles of the pagodas and enjoy the sunrise and sunset.

A hot air balloon ride during sunrise is an unforgettable experience (only possible during the dry season).
