Day 1: Yangon – Sittwe – Mrauk U
Transfer to Yangon airport in the morning (also possible to travel from Bagan or Heho on Inle Lake). 1 ½ hour flight to the trade harbour town Sittwe on the Gulf of Bengal. Transfer from airport to boat landing place, where a simple wooden boat will take you on the Kalanda River to Mrauk U in around 5 hours. When you reach Mrauk U in the evening, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Mrauk U
A day of sightseeing in Mrauk U, which was once one of the most opulent royal towns of Asia. Today it is mainly an archaeological site and you can explore the many overgrown stupas and Buddha images hidden in the undergrowth around town. Mrauk U is as picturesque as Bagan before the restoration 30 years ago.
Day 3: Mrauk U
After breakfast, your day will begin with a boat trip to a Chin village in the Rakhine Mountains. The boat will take you upriver through the jungle and to the valleys of the Rakhine Mountains. From here you will carry on by foot to a Chin village. Return to Mrauk U in the early evening.
Day 4: Mrauk U – Sittwe – Yangon
Early start by boat from Mrauk U to Sittwe. Transfer from the harbour to the airport. Afternoon flight back to Yangon via Ngapali.
