Day 1: Yangon – Golden Rock
The car will set off at 7am for a four hour drive through Myanmar’s “rice paddy” to Kyaiktiyio, the starting point of your 6 hour trek to the 1200m high summit of the Golden Rock. The route will take you through the jungle and through a bamboo forest. As an alternative to the trek, you can opt to be taken to a pilgrimage camp by truck. With the help of four sedan chair carriers you will reach the summit in around 1 hour. The Golden Rock appears as if it is floating above the precipice, and according to legend, it maintains its balance only through a hair belonging to Buddha. It is one of the most significant pilgrimage sites for Buddhists worldwide. The Golden Rock is at its most impressive in the evening atmosphere. You can spend the night in a mountain-top hotel.
